Selecting sequencers and views
MSEQ supports two independent players, each looking at the same 16 sequencers through their own pair of Launchpads, with up to 8 views per sequencer. Selection is done from the Launchpad hardware: the top row chooses which sequencer you are editing, and the rightmost column (column 9) chooses which view of it you see.
Selection is player-specific: moving sequencer or view changes only your hardware view of the sequencer, and the other player has their own. Changing view or sequencer also has no effect on what is playing, which carries on even when you are not looking at it.
Startup state
On patch load, both players start with:
- Sequencer 1 selected (top-left Launchpad button highlighted).
- Global view active (all 8 column-9 buttons lit).
- TR-8 alt latch off.
Navigation
Across the top row are the 16 sequencers: pressing a top-row button slides you sideways from one to the next. Down the right-hand column are that sequencer’s views: pressing a column-9 button takes you into a new view of that sequencer, for sequencing duty, velocity or CC, or for changing octaves or notes. Every sequencer starts at the same place, the top of its column, which is its global view. On every sequencer except 8 and 16 (the two settings sequencers), that global view is the trig view, the grid where you write which steps play.
If you go from that global view into, for example, the octave view (the mustard button, third from the top on a synth sequencer), you can return to the global view by pressing that button again, or by pressing the sequencer’s top-row button.
Navigating the TR-8
The TR-8 has more to play than one grid can hold: 15 drum tracks plus boom-tsk. So its sequencer is split across two grids that share one top-row button, a main grid and an alt grid.
Moving between them is a third direction, alongside the top row and column 9. Press up or down on the LaunchControl and you switch to the other grid: from main to alt, or from alt back to main. Either button does the same thing, and you land on that grid’s global view, just as you do when you pick a sequencer from the top row.
Only those two buttons switch grids. Press the TR-8’s top-row button, or a column-9 button, and you stay on whichever grid you were last on. The one exception is the velocity arp view: if it’s open when you press up or down, it stays open and follows you to the other grid. As with the rest of navigation, which grid you’re on is yours alone. The other player can be on the other one.
LED reference
| Location | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Top row (both Launchpad banks) | Currently selected sequencer, highlighted by the frontend compositor. The colour indicates the sequencer’s active state relative to the bar position. |
| Column 9, all 8 lit | The global view is open. |
| Column 9, one lit | Single-view mode: only the lit view is active. The colour is that view’s own colour on the selected sequencer. |
