Jam Keyboard

Purpose

A rhythmic gate-pattern instrument: the LP grid becomes a scale-aware keyboard whose held notes only sound on active steps of a shared 16-step trig pattern. It is not a play-on-press keyboard: the pattern releases the held notes into the engine.

Interaction

Rows 1–7 are a piano-style keyboard spanning ~4 octaves (octave-start markers highlighted). Row 8 is the trig-pattern editor, split across each player’s own pair of LPs: your LP LHS edits steps 1–8, your LP RHS edits steps 9–16. Both players share one note-gate table and one pattern. Hold keys to gate notes; release to clear.

Shortcuts

Keyboard (rows 1–7)

Gesture Where Action Modifiers
Press + hold rows 1–7 LP grid Gate the resolved note (scale degree + octave) until release none
Release rows 1–7 LP grid Drop the note from the gate none
Press row 7, col 8 (unlocked) LP grid Freeze: latch the current gate so the notes keep sounding after release none
Press row 7, col 8 (frozen) LP grid Unlock: clear the gate and send all-notes-off scoped to the jam sequencer none
Press a keyboard note while frozen LP grid Unlocks first, then starts a fresh live hold none

Trig pattern (row 8: same modifier model as trig view)

Gesture Where Action Modifiers
Press row 8 LP grid Toggle step OFF ↔ ON none
SHIFT + press row 8 LP grid Toggle PERCENTAGE_CHANCE shift
MUTE + press row 8 LP grid TRIGMUTE mute
SOLO + press row 8, twice LP grid Sustain: start step, then end step solo
REC ARM + press row 8 LP grid Cycle MOD1 → MOD2 → MOD4 → MOD8 → MOD16 rec_arm
8A + press row 8 LP grid Cycle INVMOD4 → INVMOD8 → INVMOD16 8a
SHIFT + MUTE + press row 8 LP grid Reset the whole pattern: all 16 steps → OFF + engine all-notes-off. Any row-8 cell, no undo shift+mute
SHIFT + SOLO + press row 8 LP grid Randomise the whole pattern: all 16 steps. Any row-8 cell, no undo shift+solo

The freeze pad is a shared latch keyed on the jam sequencer, not per player: either player’s press moves the same freeze state. It is off-white when unlocked and red when frozen, and it survives view changes and trig edits.

Keyboard octave is set from the LC: MUTE + top row = up, MUTE + bottom row = down (see Global controls reference).
